How to Find Tutoring Jobs?

Before engaging in finding jobs, you need to make sure that you’re legally allowed to work in the country you currently live. If you’re in your own, then you should be fine. If you’re abroad, check the international service of your school/company first.

If it's legal, you can find tutoring jobs by networking, using Facebook, or checking out platforms like Apprentus and Superprof. There are also alternatives that depend on where you live. Just search tutoring service online and you’ll find tons. Read the reviews both from tutors, parents and students before signing up. Based on my personal experiences with the platform mentioned above, I highly recommend Apprentus over Superprof.

How to Advertise Your Tutoring Service on Social Media?

When advertising your tutoring service on social media, you need to provide clear and detailed information about your credentials and what you can tutor. State your availability, your teaching style, the languages you can teach in, and your fees. Also, provide your contact information and a link to your LinkedIn profile.

Request recommendations from your students and make sure all your posts and comments reflect your competence. Trust, transparency, and credibility matter a lot in this line of work. Therefore, everything you post on your social account matters.

Avoid using copyrighted work unless you have permission and always give credit to pictures you took from the internet. Pixabay.com and pexels.com have free pictures you can use. I design all my flyers and post in Canva.com.

How to Present Yourself to Potential Clients?

Your online presence matters significantly for presenting yourself to potential clients. Update your profile picture regularly, use images while posting, and share posts related to your interests. Always tag anyone in your pictures and request permission before posting.

How to Manage Your Time Between Studying, Tutoring, and Social Media?

Time management is key. Use a calendar app (I use Google Calendar)to schedule your tasks and post something relevant regularly. People will forget who you are if you don’t post regularly. Use a planner/schedule post to plan your posts. Be on social media when most people are there but don’t spam people!

When and How to Say No to Clients?

You should say no to clients when you can not do the job. In such instances, you could suggest another peer. Also, say no when the client changes the agreement or has no money to pay. Remember, tutoring is a job, not charity.

What Skills Do You Need to Develop in Order to Be a Successful Tutor?

As a tutor, you need to develop emotional intelligence, time management skills, and motivation. Also, constantly update your skills and learn new ones relevant to your field. For instance, if you are a math tutor, you can learn to program in Scratch.

As you’ll be teaching a student, update your teaching skills. Go here for a list of materials you can explore. You can also go here for a list of Montessori YouTube channel if you like videos. Don't feel overwhelmed by the abundance of materials available. Strive to learn one technique at a time and you’ll see by the end of the year how good of a teacher you are!

I hope these insights will help you build your personal brand as a tutor.

Share the links with your friends and give me a clap! Cheers!
